Cebu’s Original Lechon Belly at Mall of Asia

Lechon or even Cebu’s famous lechon doesn’t really excite me. At parties I would just eat a little skin if it was crunchy and would skip the meat altogether. Cebu’s lechon tastes a little better but still I don’t find myself wanting to eat it.

It all changed when I got to try Cebu’s Original Lechon Belly during my last trip to Cebu. I instantly fell in love with the spicy and fragrant pork and most specially the crunchy skin. Weeks after tasting it I still thought about it and actually considered ordering a whole belly from Cebu. A few months later they opened their first branch in Manila at Festival Mall in Alabang. I really wanted to go there but it was too far.

Luckily I found out that they opened in Mall of Asia at the Taste Asia area right next to the entrance of SM Hypermarket. I immediately dragged my friend to join me for a lechon meal.

The prices were a bit higher than in Cebu but that’s to be expected since they fly in the lechon daily.

I was worried if the taste of the lechon would be the same as in Cebu and I’m ecstatic to report that it was!! The skin was just as crispy and the lechon was just as tender and super spicy.

Rochelle and I shared 1/4 kilo. It may look like a small amount for 2 people but trust me you will eat a lot of rice. I just ate one puso (rice wrapped in banana leaves) while Rochelle ate one puso plus another cup of rice since her tolerance for heat was lower. If you will eat at Taste Asia I suggest buying your rice from the other stalls because their puso was cold, sticky and quite unappetizing. Rochelle’s second cup of rice was steaming hot.

I took home 1/2 kilo of spicy boneless lechon and ate it over two days. It was even better warmed in the toaster oven with the fat dripping and the skin even crunchier. I’m actually drooling and yearning for more lechon while writing this post. For now this is the number one lechon for me and the only one I will eat with gusto.
